IndexAmericas recognizes 10 companies in Latin America and the Caribbean leading in gender equality

MENDOZA, Argentina—IndexAmericas, the first corporate sustainability index created by a multilateral bank, publishes a new sub-index to recognize the 10 companies with operations in Latin America and the Caribbean most committed to gender equality. The announcement was made at a meeting on the financial inclusion of women and organized in parallel to the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and IDB Invest.

These 10 companies are part of the 100 most sustainable companies within IndexAmericas. This new sub-index, which evaluates only gender issues, considers 20 criteria that are grouped into three pillars: the workplace, the market and the community.

The companies selected, in alphabetical order, are: Carrefour, Diageo PLC, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, Intel Corp., Kering, Merck KGaA, Millicom International Cellular S.A. (US), Peugeot, Praxair, Inc., Repsol.

"The IndexAmericas gender sub-index is a strategic tool that could be used by all companies operating in Latin America and the Caribbean," explained Gema Sacristan, chief investment officer of IDB Invest. "It is an index aimed at companies that seek to improve their efforts in sustainability and gender equality."

IndexAmericas is the only index that incorporates development as a critical element in the sustainability of companies, in addition to environmental, social and governance assessment. It was created by the Inter-American Development Bank and its private sector arm, IDB Invest, in partnership with S-Network Global Indexes. This initiative is enhanced with Thomson Reuters data.

In the context of the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the IDB and IDB Invest held from March 22 to 25, the media company Latin Trade awarded companies with the highest score in the categories of environmental, social, corporate governance, development and multilatina, based on the methodology and results of IndexAmericas.
