Towards a New Sustainability Policy
In 1999, the IIC introduced its Environmental and Labor Review Procedure, which stayed in place until end of August 2013.
The IIC started working towards a new Environmental and Social (E&S) Sustainability Policy in early 2012. The goal of the consultative process was to ensure that adequate and timely information was provided to interested people and those potentially affected by this Policy, and that these groups were given sufficient opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns.
A draft version of the E&S Sustainability Policy was posted on the IIC website for a period of 75 calendar days starting on Monday, December 10, 2012. In addition, the IIC also held a meeting with stakeholders during the consultation period, which took place on February 1st, 2013.
Once the public comment period closed, the IIC reviewed all stakeholder feedback and published a summary of the key topics/issues raised during the stakeholder consultation and public comment period. The summary includes information on how and why issues/comments have or have not been incorporated or reflected into the revised version of the draft E&S Sustainability Policy.
The IIC presented a new draft policy, which included the results of the stakeholder consultation, to the Board of Executive Directors in June 2013. The new Sustainability Policy was approved on June 25, 2013 and it became effective on September 1, 2013.
