James P. Scriven
Mr. Scriven was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) on November 1st 2015, by its Board of Executive Directors as part of the private sector consolidation efforts currently undergoing at the IDB Group.
Mr. Scriven will oversee the implementation of the IIC’s expanded mandate under a renewed vision for private sector operations endorsed by shareholders. Last March, the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Inter-American Investment Corporation approved the consolidation of the IDB Group’s private sector activities into the IIC. Effective January 1st, 2016, the IIC will offer a full array of private sector products and services previously offered across the IDB Group.
Previous to this assignment, Mr. Scriven was the Vice President - Corporate Risk and Sustainability at IFC, responsible for the Credit, Corporate Risk, Special Operations and Environment and Sustainability Departments and a member of the Senior Management Team of IFC. He was the Vice Chair of the Corporate Risk Committee, the Alternate Chair of the Corporate Client Committee, the Chair of the Execution and Diligence Steering Group and led the Process Efficiency Initiative.
Until October 2014, Mr. Scriven was the Director - Global Head of the Financial Institutions, Insurance, Microfinance and Private Equity Funds Group in IFC and a member of the IFC’s Operations Group, Corporate Operations Committee and Corporate Equity Committee and an Investment Committee Member of the IFC Asset Management Company’s Capitalization Fund. The Financial Institutions Group has 397 staff in 40 countries, works with 700 financial institutional clients and 200 private equity funds in 120 countries and accounts for about half of IFC’s new investments each year.
Mr. Scriven joined IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, in April 2002 as Principal Investment Officer in the Global Financial Markets Department, based in the Buenos Aires office, responsible for the restructuring efforts in the Argentine financial sector. Shortly after, he moved to Washington DC, where he has held several positions, with progressively larger responsibilities in the Global Financial Markets Department, including: Team Leader covering Mexico and Central America, Manager, New Business for Latin America and the Caribbean, Associate Director, Operations, for the Latin America and the Caribbean, and Africa regions. In July 2007, he was promoted to Director overseeing all financial markets operations in both regions and in August 2010 to Director Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group.
Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Scriven was Chief Financial Officer of Banco Hipotecario S.A., one of the largest commercial banks and leading mortgage bank in Argentina.
Mr. Scriven holds a Master’s Degree in Finance from C.E.M.A. (Argentina) and B.A. in Business Administration from UCA (Argentina).
