The IIC is the only regional multilateral institution providing financing for private businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean that specifically focuses on small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs). The IIC works closely with private companies throughout the region to help them meet challenges, revamp business strategies, and embrace new technologies that, together, will enable them to continue driving development.

IIC-financed projects offer profitable investment opportunities and foster economic development. From creating jobs and broadening capital ownership to facilitating transfers of resources and technology, projects should help spur economic growth and promote environmental stewardship. Projects that generate foreign exchange income or promote the economic integration of Latin America and the Caribbean are also eligible for IIC funding.

All projects financed by the IIC are subject to a thorough environmental and labor review process, including but not limited to an assessment of their compliance with applicable domestic environmental legislation, waste management practices, and relevant occupational health and safety issues.

The IIC only invests in for-profit projects and charges competitive rates for its products and services.
