Inter-American Investment Corporation Conducts Workshop to Promote Environmental Management Awareness


IIC General Manager John C. Rahming stresses bankers' interest in environmental protection MIAMI, FL - Representatives from thirteen financial institutions from twelve Latin American and Caribbean countries attended the workshop in Miami, Florida, from June 23 to 25. The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group organized the workshop to improve understanding of environmental risks and opportunities on the part of financial entities benefiting from IIC funding. Participants received training to facilitate integration of environmental management practices in their own operations and to present strategies for turning good environmental practices into competitive advantages.

IIC's General Manager, John C. Rahming, acknowledged the importance of bankers' responsibility in considering the environmental aspects of projects they finance. In delivering participation certificates to workshop attendants, he commended Latin American and Caribbean financial institutions' improvements in this area and called for increased efforts to disseminate the concept of environmental responsibility to all economic agents.

The workshop received the support of the Italian Government through the IIC's Italian Fund.
