Trieste and Turin, Italy, October 30, 2012 — The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) has hosted a series of conferences in Trieste and Turin, Italy to help create a network of Italian, Latin American, and Caribbean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) interested in exploring joint business opportunities for trade, investment, and transfer of know-how and technology.

The events are part of the IIC’s Italian Development Program, which seeks to foster cooperation and partnerships to promote business opportunities for Italian companies and their counterparts in Latin America and the Caribbean. The conferences were organized together with the Turin Chamber of Commerce, the Piedmont Agency for Investments, Export and Tourism, Banca Popolare di Vicenza, and Illycaffè.

“The IIC acts as a catalyst that attracts other resources, such as additional funding, technology, and know-how, which it mobilizes via technical assistance and direct and indirect financing”, noted Antonello Bove from the IIC’s Italian Development Program.

“Illycaffè looks back on more than 20 years of experience in Brazil”, highlighted Anna Illy, member of the board of directors of Italian coffee producer Illycaffè and vice-president of the Ernesto Illy Foundation. “Latin America is crucial for us as a coffee producer and will continue to play an important role for our supply chain and the activities of our foundation in coffee research and community development.”

Within the context of the conferences, the IIC and the Turin Chamber of Commerce signed an agreement, committing an additional 40,000 euros to their existing three-year-old partnership. The two institutions will also continue to work together to identify joint business opportunities for companies from the Piedmont region and SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Alessandro Barberis, president of the European Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Turin Chamber of Commerce, added: “The renewed agreement between the Turin Chamber of Commerce and the IIC is crucial for companies from Piedmont that want to expand their activities to growing economies in Latin America, as it provides them with operational and structural support through training, trade missions, and assistance on trade and financial issues”.
