IIC Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Asociación de Universidades Confiadas a la Compañía de Jesús en América Latina (AUSJAL)

Washington, D.C. - On June 23, 2004, the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) signed a US$25 million memorandum of understanding with Asociación de Universidades Confiadas a la Compañía de Jesús en América Latina (AUSJAL, the association of Jesuit universities in Latin America) for furthering AUSJAL’s work in the field of education and creating a program to support the academic and social development of Latin America by providing direct and indirect financing for higher education projects in the region. The signing ceremony took place at IIC headquarters in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Luis Ugalde, S.J., president of AUSJAL, and Steven Reed, acting General Manager of the IIC. The Inter-American Investment Corporation is a multilateral financial institution that is part of the Inter-American Development Bank Group. It provides financing (in the form of equity investments, loans, guarantees, and other instruments) and advisory services to private enterprises in Latin America and the Caribbean. The IIC's mission is to promote the economic development of its regional borrowing member countries by stimulating the establishment, expansion, and modernization of private enterprises, particularly those that are small and medium in size.
