IIC, KEMCO Train Central American Energy Auditors in Korea
GREENPYME training program brings expertise in energy effciency to Central America
Washington, D.C., November 5, 2012 — The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) and the Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO) have concluded their first joint energy efficiency training for nine energy auditors from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua in Seoul, Korea.
This six-day training program under the IIC’s GREENPYME technical assistance initiative aims to increase the expertise of energy auditors and managers in the region, opening up new job opportunities for them in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sector in Central America.
“Workshop participants brought a high level of commitment and enthusiasm to the training program”, highlighted Dr. Huh Jeung-Soo, KEMCO president and CEO. “We are honored to share our experience with professionals who understand the significance of energy efficiency, particularly in regions with high energy costs like Korea and Central America.”
Jorge Roldán, chief of the IIC’s Technical Assistance and Strategic Partnerships Division, noted: “The expertise and experience of KEMCO’s specialists has been invaluable for the success of this first energy efficiency training. The IIC and KEMCO signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this year and we are looking forward to continuing our strong partnership to help build capacity across Latin America and the Caribbean in the field of energy efficiency so that more small and medium-sized enterprises can benefit from the latest know-how and technology for sustainable development.”
KEMCO is a public institution for the promotion of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and climate change mitigation. The agency aims to create an energy use culture that is responsive to climate change, promoting a more efficient use of energy resources and supplying technologies for new energy sources.
GREENPYME helps companies become more competitive, reducing their energy consumption costs and greenhouse gas emissions through the adoption of energy efficiency measures and investment in more efficient technology. GREENPYME is part of the IIC’s flagship FINPYME initiative and has trained close to 1,000 SMEs in Latin America and the Caribbean since its launch in 2008.
