Belgium, Finland, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden Become Members of the Inter-American Investment Corporation

Agreement announced on March 21, 2001 in Santiago, Chile, by the IIC's Board of Governors SANTIAGO DE CHILE - The Board of Governors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) welcomed five new shareholder countries to the IIC. The announcement was made yesterday during the annual meetings of the Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation. The meetings are being held in Santiago, Chile, from March 19 to 21.

The admission of Belgium, Finland, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden will bring to forty-two the number of member countries of the IIC, which is the IDB Group institution that is mandated to provide financing for small and medium-size enterprises in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, the entry of new members completes the process that began in December 1999, when the IIC's member countries approved a $500 million
