Geography

Colombia is located in the northernmost tip of South America, and is the only country in the continent with coasts in the Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. It is exactly in the middle between North and South America. Cartagena de Indias was founded on June 1st 1533. The city sits next to the Caribbean sea. Cartagena has become one of the most important ports in Colombia, and has become a very popular tourist destination. Its current population is 971,700 inhabitants, and is the fifth largest city in Colombia. Cartagena's colonial walled city and fortress were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1959.
