About the Inter-American Investment Corporation
The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, promotes private sector development in Latin America and the Caribbean with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We help companies streamline management processes and provide them with financing in the form of equity investments, loans, and guarantees. The IIC’s mission is to promote economic development in its regional developing member countries by fostering the establishment, expansion, and modernization of private enterprises in a manner that complements the activities of the IDB.
The Corporation works in close cooperation with the IDB Group in its efforts to promote private sector development, mounting joint activities designed to broaden support for the private sector in the regional developing member countries. Essentially, this cooperation involves identifying projects in the areas of agriculture, manufacturing, forestry, tourism, infrastructure, health, education, technological enhancement, risk management, and any other areas in which the IDB operates; joint technical cooperation agreements to help companies gain access to international capital markets; joint efforts to identify investment promotion mechanisms; and administrative support through regional offices.
Over the course of more than 25 years, the IIC has become a reliable partner and effective catalyst for economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Corporation is committed to providing SMEs with greater access to financial resources and technical assistance to expand and improve their operations, create jobs, and promote environmental and social sustainability. Throughout our history, we have approved nearly 800 direct loans to SMEs and financial intermediaries totaling more than US$4.8 billion. An additional US$2.8 billion has been mobilized through cofinancing and syndication agreements.
